Mission

Castlewood Magnolia Grange Old Jail Museum
The history of Chesterfield County – its places, people and events - is the focus of our collection which has been carefully assembled through the years by donations from members and friends of the Society as well as purchases of relevant items. The Library Committee preserves and maintains various collections, including books, manuscripts, periodicals, maps, pictures, vertical files, family history files and microfilms. The library’s Rare Books collection contains items that are more than 200 years old.
Library volunteers assist patrons, maintain records, preserve and repair items, handle research requests and compile indices as well as databases for specific library collections such as CHS Civil War Resources and CHS African American Resources.

Located in Castlewood on the corner of Iron Bridge Road and Krause Road, the Library of the Chesterfield Historical Society is a reference facility open to the public for research purposes Monday through Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm. Use of the library is free. A fee is charged for photocopies. Write-in research requests cost $25.
