Mission

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia serves as the center for Chesterfield history. Its purpose is to collect, preserve, interpret and promote the county’s unique past for the education of present and future generations.

Exhibit at the Museum:  Chesterfield Historical Society of VA Opened Exhibit opened on February 4, 2012  at the Chesterfield Museum - “FourScore and More Part II”, Oral Histories of Chesterfield’s African-American Elders” For a larger view, Click on the pictures.  The exhibit will run through April 28, 2012.

New Exhibits at the Old Jail and Museum:  Chesterfield Historical Society of VA Opened a new Police & Sheriff Exhibit at the Old Historic 1892 Jail Museum on May 16, 2012.  A new exhibit geared for children opened on May 5, 2012 at the Chesterfield Museum.

Genealogy Workshop The Genealogical Research Committee of the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will present a workshop on genealogy for beginners on class schedule for Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 9 a.m. to noon at historic Castlewood, 10201 Iron Bridge Rd. in Chesterfield, VA.  This popular class fills quickly.  Use the PayPal button to register.

Cemetery BookThe Cemetery book has been published. On the cemeteries page is an order form for the new book.  A book on Chesterfield’s Churchyard Cemeteries has been published by the cemetery committee of the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia.  This book includes inscriptions from all church burial grounds within the historical boundaries of Chesterfield County.  The names of over 7,000 individuals are listed. The price is $25 plus tax.

 

Veterans Database BookA new paperback book is available - a database of veterans from Chesterfield County.  You can pre-order the "CHESTERFIELD COUNTY VIRGINIA VETERANS" book using this pre-order form Copies are available at Magnolia Grange & Castlewood.
